Are you sure those aren’t the names of the owners(even if pseudonyms)? Which would make this not so much fail, but rather clever.

  2. 2 Anonymous May 8, 2008 at 12:47 am

yea… exactly what i think, they might be the family names…

  3. 3 Charlie May 8, 2008 at 5:58 am

That would be cool, but no.. It’s not their names, it’s down to pure ignorance of the English language.

  4. 4 Suz May 8, 2008 at 10:15 am

    And Charlie would know because…

  5. 5 Charlie May 8, 2008 at 10:36 am

Because charlie posted the pic and it’s his local chip shop!

I think Charlie either has no common sense or is just illiterate.
The name of the restaurant is clearly a pun on the phrase “Fish n Chips,” hence the apostrophes.

It seems retarded to me.. please tell me why the hell “fishes” EVER contains an apostrophe between the E and S unless the person’s name is “fishe” which it clearly isn’t!
also, to anonymous, wtf!? why would a pun require apostrophes!?

Well, it’s like asking why so many people dangle the apostrophes in front of their surnames (e.g., “Christmas Day with the Rogerson’s,” “Welcome to the Matheson’s,” and so on).

Yeah, this one isn’t even funny. They’re playing with words. It’s cute.

Oh sweet! That’s my local chippy!

    “Hello, Sir Fishe.”
    “Good day, Mister Chip”
“I’m feeling quite bored today, what do you suggest we do?”
    “Let’s open a ‘chippy’!”
“A fantastic idea! Just one problem, we don’t live in England.”

this is in a non-us country.
notice the shape of the phone on the sign. typically found in europe.

also, a quick google search show this to be a store name in the UK:

    CV8 1GB
    Call: 01926 853782
    Classification: FISH & CHIPS

not to mention the fact that the door, I think I can make out the number 82….

This is the submitter’s fail, not the shop’s fail. It’s clearly a clever play on words. Sort of like Curl Up & Dye, the name of a hair salon where I live.

    Sheer ignorance.
